സാമൂഹ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം രക്തത്തില്‍ അലിഞ്ഞ് ചേര്‍ന്നതുകൊണ്ടാകാം എ.പി. മണികണ്ഠന്റെ ജീവിതം സാമൂഹ്യ സേവനത്തിന്റെ വേറിട്ട മാതൃക രചിക്കുന്നത്. തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ലയില്‍ വലപ്പാട് പഞ്ചായത്തിലെ എടമുട്ടം സ്വദേശിയായ എ.പി. മണികണ്ഠന്‍ ഒന്നര പതിറ്റാണ്ടുകൊണ്ട് ഖത്തറിലെ സാമൂഹ്യ സാംസ്‌കാരിക മേഖലകളിലെ സജീവസാന്നിധ്യമായത് പൊതുപ്രവര്‍ത്തന രംഗത്തും സേവന രംഗത്തും അദ്ദേഹം സൃഷ്ടിച്ച വേറിട്ടതും മാതൃകാപരവുമായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളിലൂടെയാണ്.
പുഷ്പന്‍, ശാന്ത ദമ്പതികളുടെ ഏക മകനായ മണികണ്്ഠന് അച്ഛന്‍ നല്‍കിയ ഉപദേശം ഏത് രംഗത്ത് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ചാലും എന്നും ഒരു നല്ല മനുഷ്യനാകണമെന്നാണ് .ബിസിനസിലും പൊതുപ്രവര്‍ത്തനരംഗത്തുമൊക്കെ ഈ ഉപദേശം ശിരസാവഹിച്ചുകൊണ്ടാണ് മണികണ്ഠന്‍ തന്റെ ജൈത്രയാത്ര തുടരുന്നത്.
വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികാലത്ത് തന്നെ ഊര്‍ജസ്വലമായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനം കൊണ്ട് കെ. എസ്. യു നേതൃത്വത്തിലെത്തിയ അദ്ദേഹം യൂത്ത് കോണ്‍ഗ്രസിലും സജീവമായിരുന്നു. പഞ്ചായത്തീ രാജ് നടപ്പാക്കിയ ശേഷം 1995 ല്‍ നടന്ന തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പില്‍ തന്റെ ഇരപത്തഞ്ചാമത്തെ വയസ്സില്‍ പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡണ്ടായി എന്നത്് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ പ്രവര്‍ത്തന മികവിന്റേയും നേതൃപാഠവത്തിന്റേയും സാക്ഷ്യപത്രമാണ്. മികച്ച പഞ്ചായത്ത് പ്രസിഡന്റിനുള്ള അംഗീകാരം നേടിയ അദ്ദേഹം ജനകീയാസൂതണം നടപ്പാക്കുന്നതിനുള്ള സംസ്ഥാന തല റിസോര്‍സ് പേര്‍സണായും സേവനമനുഷ്ടിച്ചു.
നാട്ടില്‍ ട്രാവല്‍ ആന്റ് ടൂറിസം ബിസിനസുമായി മുന്നോട്ടുപോകുന്നതിനിടയിലാണ് 2006 ലെ ദോഹ ഏഷ്യന്‍ ഗെയിംസിന്റെ മുന്നോടിയായി ലഭിച്ച ബിസിനസ് അവസരം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തി 2005 ല്‍ ഖത്തറിലെത്തുന്നത്. ട്രാവല്‍ രംഗത്തും ട്രേഡിംഗിലുമാണ് ശ്രദ്ധ കേന്ദ്രീകരിക്കുന്നത്.
സജീവമായ പൊതുപ്രവര്‍ത്തനം വിദ്യാര്‍ഥി ജീവിതകാലം മുതലേ പതിവാക്കിയതിനാല്‍ ഖത്തറിലെത്തിയ ശേഷവും മണികണ്ഠനിലെ സാമൂഹ്യ പ്രവര്‍ത്തകന് കേവലമൊരു ബിസിനസുകാരനായി ഒതുങ്ങിനില്‍ക്കുവാന്‍ കഴിയുമായിരുന്നില്ല. ദോഹയിലെത്തിയ ഉടനെ തന്നെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കള്‍ ചറല്‍ സെന്റര്‍ അംഗത്വമെടുത്ത അദ്ദേഹം നാട്ടിക എസ്. എന്‍. കോളേജ് പൂര്‍വ വിദ്യാര്‍ഥി സംഘടനയായ എസ്. എന്‍. സ്മൃതി, കോണ്‍ഫഡറേഷന്‍ ഓഫ് അലുംനി അസോസിയേഷന്‍സ് എന്നിവയുടെ അധ്യക്ഷനായി പൊതുപ്രവര്‍ത്തന രംഗത്ത് സജീവമായി. തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ല സൗഹൃദ വേദി കണ്‍വീനര്‍, ഇന്‍കാസ് ജനറല്‍ സെക്രട്ടറി, ഭവന്‍സ് പബ്‌ളിക് സ്‌ക്കൂള്‍ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡണ്ട് എന്നീ നിലകളിലും ക്രിയാത്മക സാമൂഹ്യ സാംസ്‌കാരിക ഇടപെടലുകളിലൂടെ എ. പി. മണികണ്ഠന്‍ എന്ന നേതാവ് ഖത്തറിലെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സമൂഹത്തില്‍ നിറഞ്ഞുനിന്നു.
2016 ല്‍ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എംബസിയുടെ കീഴിലുള്ള ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കള്‍ചറല്‍ സെന്റര്‍ വൈസ് പ്രസിഡണ്ടായി തെരഞ്ഞെടുക്കപ്പെട്ട അദ്ദേഹം 2018 ലാണ് ഐ.സി.സി. പ്രസിഡണ്ട് സ്ഥാനമേറ്റെടുക്കുന്നത്. തുടര്‍ച്ചയായ നാലു വര്‍ഷം ഐ.സി.സി. യുടെ തലപ്പത്തിരുന്ന് ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ സാമൂഹ്യ സാംസ്‌കാരിക പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് നേതൃത്വം നല്‍കിയ അദ്ദേഹം അടുത്തമാസം അവസാനത്തോടെ അധികാരമൊഴിയുവാന്‍ തയ്യാറെടുക്കുകയാണ്.
ഖത്തറിലെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സമൂഹം തങ്ങളെ ഏല്‍പ്പിച്ച ഉത്തരവാദിത്തം ഭംഗിയായി നിര്‍വഹിച്ച ചാരിതാര്‍ഥ്യത്തോടെയാണ് ഐ.സി.സി.യുടെ ഉത്തരവാദപ്പെട്ട സ്ഥാനത്തുനിന്നും പടിയിറങ്ങുന്നതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു. ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എംബസിയുടെ പിന്തുണ, മാനേജിംഗ് കമ്മറ്റിയിലെ ടീമിന്റെ കൂട്ടായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍, ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സമൂഹത്തിന്റെ വിശിഷ്യ ഐ.സി.സി.യോട് അഫിലിയേറ്റ് ചെയ്ത സംഘടനകളുടെ അകമഴിഞ്ഞ സഹകരണം എന്നിവയാണ് അഭിമാനകരമായ പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങള്‍ക്ക് കരുത്തേകിയതെന്ന് അദ്ദേഹം പറഞ്ഞു.
ഖത്തറിലെ സാധാരണക്കാരായ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരുടെ കലാ സാംസ്‌കാരിക പ്രവര്‍ത്തനങ്ങളുടെ കേന്ദ്രമായി ഐ.സി.സി.യെ മാറ്റുവാന്‍ സഹായകമായ ബുധനാഴ്ച പരിപാടി നിരവധി വ്യക്തികളും കൂട്ടായ്മകളുമാണ് പ്രയോജനപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. 2019 ല്‍ മാത്രം ഈ രൂപത്തിലുള്ള നാല്‍പതോളം പരിപാടികളാണ് ഐ.സി.സി.യില്‍ നടന്നത്
2019 ല്‍ ഖത്തര്‍ ഇന്ത്യാ സാംസ്‌കാരിക വര്‍ഷം മികച്ച രീതിയില്‍ ആഘോഷിച്ചത് ഐ.സി.സി.യുടെ പൂര്‍ണപങ്കാളിത്തത്തോടും കോര്‍ഡിനേഷനിലുമായിരുന്നു.
ഇന്ത്യന്‍ സ്‌പോര്‍ട്‌സ് സെന്റര്‍, ഖത്തര്‍ കരാട്ടെ ആന്റ് തൈകുണ്ടോ ഫെഡറേഷന്‍ എന്നിവയുടെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ ഖത്തറിലെ ഇന്ത്യന്‍ കരാട്ടെ ക്‌ളബ്ബുകള്‍ക്കായി നടത്തിയ പ്രഥമ ഗ്രാന്റ് കരാട്ടെ ടൂര്‍ണമെന്റില്‍ 25 ക്‌ളബ്ബുകളെ പ്രതിനിധീകരിച്ച് നാനൂറോളം വിദ്യാര്‍ഥികളാണ് പങ്കെടുത്തത്.
ഐ.സി. സി. യെ ഖത്തറിലെ ഇന്ത്യക്കാരുടെ സുപ്രധാനമായ ഒരു ഹാപ്പനിംഗ് പ്‌ളേസ് ആക്കി മാറ്റുക എന്ന ഉദ്ദേശ്യത്തോടെ സയന്‍സ് ക്‌ളബ്ബ്,. ഫിലിം ക്‌ളബ്ബ്, എന്‍വയണ്‍മെന്റ് ക്‌ളബ്ബ് തുടങ്ങിയ രൂപീകരിക്കുകയും വൈവിധ്യമാര്‍ന്ന പരിപാടികള്‍ സംഘടിപ്പിക്കുകയും ചെയ്തു.
തൊഴില്‍ തേടുന്ന ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ സഹായിക്കുന്നതിനായി ഐ.സി. സി. തുടങ്ങിയ ജോബ്‌സ് ഇന്‍ ഖത്തര്‍ എന്ന ഓണ്‍ലൈന്‍ തൊഴില്‍ പോര്‍ട്ടല്‍ തൊഴില്‍ ദാതാക്കള്‍ക്കും അന്വേഷകര്‍ക്കും ഒരു പോലെ പ്രയോജനകരമായിരുന്നു.
ഖത്തര്‍ ഇന്ത്യാ സാംസ്‌കാരിക വര്‍ഷത്തിന്റെ സമാപനത്തിന്റെ ഭാഗമായി ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എംബസി, മ്യൂസിയം ഓഫ് ഇസ് ലാാമിക് ആര്‍ട് എന്നിവയോട് സഹകരിച്ച് സംഘടിപ്പിച്ച എ പാസേജ് ടു ഇന്ത്യ എന്ന കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി ഫെസ്റ്റിവല്‍ ജനപങ്കാളിത്തം കൊണ്ടും പരിപാടികളിലെ വൈവിധ്യം കൊണ്ടും എല്ലാവരുടേയും പ്രശംസ പിടിച്ചുപറ്റി. രണ്ട് ദിവസങ്ങളിലായി നടന്ന ആഘോഷത്തില്‍ ഇരുപത്തയ്യായിരത്തിലധികം പേരാണ് പങ്കെടുത്ത്. നാലു പതിറ്റാണ്ട് കാലം ഖത്തറിലെ വ്യാപാര രംഗത്ത് പ്രവര്‍ത്തിച്ച 25 ഇന്ത്യക്കാരെ ആദരിച്ചതും പരിപാടിയുടെ സവിശേഷതയായിരുന്നു.
കൊറോണ പ്രതിസന്ധിയില്‍ സമൂഹത്തിന് അത്താണിയായി മാറാനും ഐ.സി. സി. ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചു. ഖത്തര്‍ ആഭ്യന്തര മന്ത്രാലയത്തിന്റെ സഹകരണത്തോടെ പാവപ്പെട്ട തൊഴിലാളികള്‍ക്ക് ഫുഡ് കിറ്റുകള്‍ വിതരണം ചെയ്യുന്ന പ്രവര്‍ത്തിയില്‍ പങ്കാളിയായതോടൊപ്പം ആവശ്യക്കാര്‍ക്ക് കൗണ്‍സിലിംഗ് ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയാണ് സേവന രംഗത്ത് സജീവമായത്.

ഐ.സി.സിയില്‍ നടക്കുന്ന ഇന്ത്യന്‍ എംബസി കൗണ്‍സിലര്‍ സര്‍വീസുകള്‍ ക്രമീകരിച്ചു. അപ്പോയന്റ്‌മെന്റ് സംവിധാനം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തി ജനങ്ങള്‍ കൂട്ടം കൂടുന്നത് ഒഴുവാക്കിയതും അപേക്ഷയുടെ സ്റ്റാറ്റസ് അറിയുവാന്‍ ഓണ്‍ ലൈന്‍ ട്രാക്കിംഗ് സിസ്റ്റം ഏര്‍പ്പെടുത്തിയതും പ്രത്യേകപരാമര്‍ശമര്‍ഹിക്കന്നു.
